This workshop will introduce two ways of creating found poetry, specifically the "cut up" technique, and erasure poetry. Both use pre-existing text to create surprising new pieces, but we'll also discuss what sets these two methods apart and learn a bit about the history of each. Participants will then be invited to experiment and create their own poems using one or both of these techniques as a jumping off point. Newspapers, old magazines, etc. will be provided for source text, along with scissors, markers, and paper. Near the end of the workshop, there will be a demonstration on how to create an 8 page "mini book" out of a single piece of paper, which can be used to house your new collection of found poetry!
All materials are included in the cost of the class - just bring yourselves!
